Being the Teacher…

Do you like history? Do you think it’s boring? Have you ever tried
to imagine what will happen if you teach that Not-So-Cool-Subject-Ever? Well, that’s what happened to me. My English teacher gave us the task to teach history in front of the class. That time I chose American Civil War. The preparation to teach is quite a lot. We have to create lesson plan with our partner, do some research, create presentation (if you choose to give lecture with presentation, of course), etc. Okay, the preparation itself was quite complicated, but I don’t have any problem with it at all. Frankly, I had a lot of fun with the preparation stage. When doing some research, I could study as well since I don’t know much about the civil war. My favorite part was when creating the presentation. I tried to add a lot of animation to make it interesting, tried to give some steam punk theme into the presentation, and I also tried to only give important point in the presentation to prevent our friends from falling asleep during our lecture. I was very sophisticated with my little masterpiece.

But, things did not work accordingly as planned. I hoped that my
friends would pay their attention, but did anyone paid attention? Hell no. I tried to speak as loud as thunder (seriously, my friend from nearby class told me that my voice could be heard in his class clearly) but everyone fell asleep. That made want to blast their brains out of their heads!! I thought I could get them interested with my presentation. I realized one of the hardest part of teaching: Get your student’s attention. Especially when the subject is boring. Well, I could always become the second Hitler and punish anyone who displease me during my lecture, but I think that’s not the best solution. Maybe it was because of my insufficient skill and experience. Or, maybe it was because of the students themselves, who could not pay some respect to others. Either way, I think being a teacher is not fun at all. It requires a lot of hard work, patience, and commitment. Being a teacher is the only kind of work that can be done by those who really have the will to teach.

From that I learned some lessons. The first one is pay some
respect,
especially to your teachers. It hurts a lot when you find yourself being ignored and no one respects you. The second is be patient. I realized that not everything will go as planned, which is why we have to improvise sometimes. The third one is being a teacher is not easy. So, I’ll erase “TEACHER” from my “I wanna be” list. I don't want to be a teacher, no sir. Well, I guess that’s it. Thanks for reading this!

  1. Umm... the second Hitler...?? Interesting .... I think you shouldn't blast their brain out of their head , because you know what ..??? You can do better.. I mean you should be more patience and stop thinking about killing them . Remember ,..
if you think there's a chance you'll do it .
